Liposuction

Liposuction removes unwanted deposits of fat under the skin in specific parts of the body e.g. neck, upper arms, abdomen, hips, thighs. It is not a method for general weight loss. Liposuction is a technique for shaping particular body areas, and is best suited to patients within 10 - 15 kg of their ideal body weight. Small cuts are made near each area to be treated. A metal tube (cannula) is inserted through the cut and moved repeatedly through the fat which is extracted by a vacuum device. The operation takes 1 - 3 hours depending on how many areas are treated and how much fat is aspirated.

Liposuction can be done as a Day Case, but an overnight stay is required to monitor fluid balance for more extensive procedures.

There will be swelling and bruising requiring the use of a custom made, elastic compression garment for 2 - 4 weeks after surgery. Return to work is possible after 1 - 2 weeks.
