Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, can improve the appearance of the nose, and may be combined with surgery to improve the nasal airway if it is obstructed. The most common request is to make a large nose smaller by "removing the hump". But the surgery may also be applied to correct deformity after injury, or previous surgery. The key to nose surgery is changing the bone and cartilage skeleton of the nose to reshape it.

The surgery is done under general anaesthetic and takes about 2 hours. It can be done as a Day Case, but an overnight stay is preferred.

The nose is covered with a splint for 1 week, and the initial swelling and bruising will take about 3 weeks to resolve.

Patients requesting this procedure should be at least 16 years of age, as it should only be performed after the nose has finished developing completely.
